InfoViewer: Single-Dose Montelukast May Attenuate Pediatric Exercise-Induced Bronchospasm

InfoViewer: Single-Dose Montelukast May Attenuate Pediatric Exercise-Induced Bronchospasm

While this is an industry-sponsored study, it does begin to look at the potential for using singulair for those with exercise induced bronchospasm.  I would probably head this direction for an athlete who truly does not have night or other frequent asthma symptoms that would warrant a steroid controller, but has bronchospasm with exercise and needs to exercise > 2x per week. Unfortunately, the patients who normally fit into that category are teens in whom Singulair has been associated with mood disorder.  No silver bullet for asthma, but this could be a reasonable part of the arsenal!
